Did you know that clouds are not weightless? They can hold millions of gallons of water and weigh 500,00 kilograms. Clouds play an important role in the water cycle, reflect solar radiation from the sun, and have significant implications for pilots. We will be making clouds in jars, learning about the science of clouds, and discussing how clouds affect the aviation industry.

Curious Careers: The Environment and Us
Curious Careers is a STEM career exploration series for Grades 6-8. Once a month, panelists, including post-secondary students and industry professionals, will get together virtually to share their career journey in STEM and discuss how it relates to the lives and interests of the youth. Each session will focus on a different theme and will aim to explore exciting and diverse STEM fields, share what it looks like to work or study in STEM, and show students how STEM careers can be fun and inspiring.

Become An Earth Doctor
Do you want to be an Earth Doctor? Explore the steps of land reclamation with land reclamation scientists from Future Energy Systems and the Land Reclamation International Graduate School, University of Alberta.
By playing along with the Dungeons and Dragons style game, you will face the challenges of land reclamation and try to heal the Earth yourself!
This class is recommended for ages 10 to 16 and families, but all are welcome. Presented in partnership with the Edmonton Public Library as part of Science Odyssey.
This event will be hosted on Zoom. Look for the Zoom link and needed supplies in your registration confirmation email and in the reminder email 24 hours before the event.

Earth Day at EPL
Do you want to become an Earth doctor?! Get your hands dirty with land reclamation scientists from Future Energy Systems and the Land Reclamation International Graduate School, University of Alberta.
Join us April 23, from 11am to 1pm at the Strathcona Branch (8331 104 St NW, Edmonton, AB T6E 4E9) of the Edmonton Public Library to get your hands on, and in, some Earth Day activities. Learn about being an Earth doctor, feel different kinds of growth mediums, design your own healthy Earth, and even take a plant home with you – once you’ve planted it, of course!

Borborygmi! That’s the name of the sound your digestive system makes when gas, food, or liquid moves through the stomach and intestines. We will make digestive tract models, learn how the digestive system works, and discover why we hear borborygmi.
Preparation: One (1) banana (or a slice of bread or crackers), fruits or vegetables with a skin (tomato, grapes, blueberries, corn, etc), one (1) bowl or jar, water, Ziploc bag, scissors, pantyhose, a tray or plate to work on, water
Expert: Dr. Aze Wilson is a clinical gastroenterologist and an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Western University.
