The Science Rendezvous 2025 Community Champion Award recognizes coordinating teams who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to engaging and inspiring their local community by creating fun, accessible, and inclusive opportunities for the public to get their hands on science at their local Science Rendezvous events.
We are thrilled to recognize Science Rendezvous at Memorial University as a recipient of the 2025 Community Champion Award!
The event was made possible in part through support from the 100th Anniversary Fund, commemorating Memorial University’s centennial year. This funding allowed an expansion of unique hands-on activities and takeaways for visitors, serving to spark curiosity and wonder in the youth of our province to pursue programs and careers in STEM.
For the first time ever, all nine departments within the Faculty of Science (Biology, Human Biosciences, Chemistry, Earth Sciences, Psychology, Physics and Physical Oceanography, Ocean Sciences, and Mathematics and Statistics) came together to participate in Science Rendezvous. It was inspiring to see faculty, staff, and students from across disciplines collaborate to engage visitors and bring the event to life.
Science Rendezvous 2025 also welcomed several first-time exhibitors, helping make it the largest event at Memorial University to date. New participants included the forensics unit from the local police department, the anatomy lab and medical student genetics group from the Faculty of Medicine, Carnegie Learning (a leader in K–12 technology education), and Paradigm Engineering from the Faculty of Engineering.
Paradigm Engineering, known for its innovation, previously placed second in the world for speed at the 2017 SpaceX Hyperloop Competition in California. Last year, they showcased their fully autonomous racing go-kart, which went on to compete in the Autonomous Karting Series in Indiana in May 2025.
The growing demand for Science Rendezvous and strong public attendance have fueled its continued expansion over the past decade. This success reflects a collaborative effort among faculties and departments within Memorial University, as well as external partners and organizations across the region.
Thank you for helping spark curiosity and strengthen connections between science and the community!
