Camp Samac


Introduction

We collected our sample from Camp Samac, near the Oshawa Creek in north Oshawa. The Oshawa Creek headwaters are in the Oak Ridges Moraine and the mouth connects to Lake Ontario. Stocked salmon (Coho and Chinook) use this creek for spawning.

Participants

The experiment was done as part of the Durham Children's Watershed Festival hosted by the Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority (CLOCA). Our participants were mainly grade 5 students from 18 schools in Durham region. Many thanks to Yvonne Storm and Meagan Breems from CLOCA for their outstanding event!

Temperature & Conditions

The day was extremely hot. Air temperature about 32 C with a humidex of close to 40 C. Bright and sunny day. Water temperature was about 20 C.

Test Location

Testing location was the middle of the creek.
