Get ready to INNOVATE! with Science Rendezvous, returning May 11th, 2024!
Science Rendezvous is the largest science festival in Canada and is dedicated to making great science accessible to the public. Join the annual festival that takes science out of the lab and onto the street (or into our homes)!
Theme: INNOVATE!
2023 Event Highlights

2022 Event Highlights
We offered a variety of workshops, as part of our 2022 festival. Check out some highlights below.
Dynamic Dinos (JK – Gr 1: Ages 4-7)
An introduction to anatomy adaptations by looking at differences in eye and tooth development in herbivorous (plant-eating) and carnivorous (meat-eating) dinosaurs. This workshop also teaches participants to “dig” for dinosaur bones as a paleontologist.
“Space-cial” Constellations (Gr 2 – Gr 5: Ages 7-11)
Participants learn about space science, with a special focus on constellations, moon phases, and the environmental conditions of the moon, and build familiar constellations visible in the sky.
Building Bridges (Gr 6 – Gr 8: Ages 11-14)
A focus on how a structure’s form depends on its function and how to predict the interaction between structures and forces. Participants are introduced to the form and function of bridge structures and then are tasked with an engineering problem to build a bridge given certain limitations.
Ocean Conservation (Gr 9 – Gr 12: Ages 14-18)
An exploration of how human activities threaten the health of our oceans with a focus on ocean acidification and oil pollution. Participants conduct a practical experiment studying soil acidification from their yards and design oil clean-up machinery.
MakerFest Workshop Details
MakerFest was hosted by Brampton, Caledon and Mississauga Libraries this year and we are excited to offer our Let’s Talk Plants workshop!
Let’s Talk Plants (Gr 1 – Gr 6)
Participants learn about types of leaves, capillary action and plant growth. They will identify leaves and create their own, complete a capillary action experiment, and they will learn how to grow their own plant!
