Science Rendezvous UBC returns IN-PERSON on May 11, 2024! We have an exciting line up of hands-on activities, demos, and tours, happening from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. across various venues. FREE event; no registration required.

Highlights

Earth Sciences Building

Location: 2207 Main Mall
  • Geering Up Team – robots and other technology activities
  • Computer Science – various activities to help learn about programming
  • Tropini Lab (Microbiology and Immunology) – learn about your gut microbiome
  • Smell Vancouver (https://smell-vancouver.ca/) – learn about air quality
  • HIVE (Faculty of Medicine) (Home Page | The HIVE (ubc.ca)) – a VR demo of the work they do
  • TRIUMF – Global Physics Photowalk exhibit, Interactive media describing How Particle Accelerators Work

Michael Smith Labs

Location: 2185 East Mall

Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in Action

Come visit us to cook an egg without any heat and learn more about why proteins aggregate.  Test which dye moves faster to witness some of the techniques used to separate small molecules.  We will also organize two experiments at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. to teach you how to isolate your own DNA using ingredients from your kitchen!

Beaty Biodiversity Museum

Location: 2212 Main Mall

Admission is by donation for the whole day! All ages are welcome.  A full day of programming including guided museum tours at 11:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., and hands-on activities at 10:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., in addition to screenings of “Raising Big Blue” – the story of how our blue whale skeleton came to UBC.
